Food scanner apps for Ireland and the UK, compared

Some apps rate a barcode, some explain processing, and some keep a food diary. This comparison separates those jobs so you can choose the tool that fits what you want to do.

Published by FoodSussed, one of the apps compared.

How this comparison was checked

Every competitor fact below comes from that company or project’s official website. Pages were checked on 24 October 2026. We did not use app-store reviews, affiliate round-ups or hands-on scoring. Where an official page does not state something, the table says so.

Purpose first

A food rating, processing explanation and calorie diary are different jobs.

Availability separated

Being listed for the UK does not automatically mean Irish availability.

What each app covers

Four jobs people often want from one app: an ingredient or additive check, a calorie and macro diary, Coach targets (targets reviewed from your own logged intake and weight trend) and a weekly review. “Not listed” means the official pages we checked on 24 October 2026 do not mention it; it does not mean the app cannot do it.

  3. FoodSussed Snap estimates a processing Level 1–4 from a photo of the ingredients list and shows which ingredients set it. It is a processing estimate, not a health or safety score.
  4. The FoodSussed Coach looks at your logged intake and weight trend and can propose a new calorie target; you accept it or keep your current plan. It needs enough logged days and weigh-ins before it proposes a change.
  5. Once a week, on the day you choose (Sunday by default), FoodSussed reviews your week: what your logs and weight show, any Coach decision or proposal, and one action for the week ahead. Food processing detail is optional.
